Are you in need of a dessert? A party appetizer? If so, Pretzel Salad would be perfect for you. It has a deliciously sweet, creamy, fruity taste, along with the crunch of the pretzel base. It is perfect for a family occasion and is always one of the first food items to be devoured. Anytime you need to go to a dinner party, a potluck, or anything with food, pretzel salad is the perfect thing to bring. It’s relatively simple to make and doesn’t take more than an hour of actual baking time. It is made with strawberry gelatin According to Add a Pinch, Pretzel Salad is “Sweet, salty, creamy, and crunchy, it has so much going for it that it is always a definite hit!”

 

Cooking time: About 50 Minutes

 

Serves: 6-8 people

 

Difficulty: Medium

 

Ingredients:

  • 2 ½ cups crushed straight pretzels (Break each pretzel into 5 pieces for best result)
  • 1 cup and 3 TBSP of white sugar
  • ½ cup butter, melted
  • 8 oz cream cheese
  • 12 oz Cool Whip
  • 6 oz box of strawberry jello
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 20 oz frozen strawberries

 

Directions:

  1. Start by mixing together all of the crushed pretzels with 3 TBSP of white sugar and ½ cup of melted butter. Make sure it is very evenly mixed. Spread the pretzel mix evenly in the bottom of a 9×13 pan. Bake pretzel base 10 min.
  2. While pretzel base is baking, mix together 8 oz of cream cheese and the remaining 1 cup of white sugar. After cream cheese and sugar are mixed, fold in 12 oz of cool whip. Once pretzel mix is cooled, spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the pretzel layer. Set aside
  3. After all that, dissolve the contents of a 6 oz strawberry jello box into 2 cups of boiling water. Add 20 oz of frozen strawberries. Refrigerate until the jello/strawberry layer is only slightly thickened. This is crucial. If it is too solid, it won’t spread well enough. If it isn’t solid enough, the jello will sink through the cream cheese layer. If this happens, the crunchy taste would effectively disappear, and the jello would be harder to taste.
  4. Once jello/strawberry layer is on the top and evenly spread, chill the whole dish until firm, and serve. The time it takes for it to firm can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours.
