Whenever you bite into a hard cracker, a crusty slice of bread, or even grilled chicken, you may think it’s just a little bland. Well, if you use some of this delicious bacon jam, you can get a sweet, spicy, tart, and savory taste, all in just one mouthful. It is a delicacy perfect for burgers, or something you want to add a little texture and flavor to. It is made with a few very simple ingredients, along with being placed in a slow cooker for a few hours. It is a overall simple recipe for people with a little more expertise in cooking.

Prep Time: 30 minutes

Cook Time: 4 hours

Total Time: 4 hours and 30 mins

Difficulty: Medium

Serves: 3 Cups

  • 1.5 lbs bacon in 1 inch pieces
  • 2 medium yellow onions, diced
  • 3 garlic cloves smashed and peeled
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup strong brewed coffee
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup

  1. Take a large skillet, and cook the bacon, stirring occasionally, at around medium-high. Do this until the bacon fat is rendered/bacon is lightly browned (this will be around 20 minutes). Transfer bacon to paper towels, allowing it to drain, using slotted spoon. Pour the bacon fat off of the skillet, leaving only 1-1.5 tbsp.
  2. Add the onions and garlic to the skillet for about 6 minutes, or until onions are translucent.
  3. Add vinegar, brown sugar, maple syrup, and coffee, and allow it to come to a boil. Afterwards, stir and scrape up the browned bits for around 2 minutes with a wooden spoon. Add in the bacon, stir it to combine.
  4. Transport the mixture to a 6-quart slow cooker. Cook on high, uncovered, for 3.5 to 4 hours, or until the liquid is syrupy.
  5. Shift mixture to food processor, and pulse into it is coarsely chopped.
  6. Allow to cool.
  7. Refrigerate in airtight containers for up to four weeks.
