Tupac Amaru Shakur is a very famous rapper in America. His original name was Lesane Parish Crooks and he was known as 2Pac and Makaveli for his fans. Tupac was an American rapper and actor as well as being the best in the 1990’s “gangsta rap”. He was born on June 16th, 1971 in Brooklyn, New York. His mother was Alice Faye Williams who first named him Lesane. Then, after the Peruvian Revolutionary, she named him Tupac Amaru Shakur. He had to move a lot with his family and spent most of his time moving around. Eventually, he and his family had settled in Baltimore, Maryland. In Baltimore, he went to the Baltimore School of the Arts. Just before he could graduate, his family had moved to Marin City, California. There, Tupac had joined gangs on the street and became involved in the “gang culture”. This culture would eventually help him for his rap songs later. In 1990, Tupac decided to become involved with Digital Underground and performed on two Digital Underground Albums and his famous solo debut, 2Pacalypse Now.  His new solo debut went off the charts and changed the way the Digital Underground was based upon. That year, Tupac Shakur had become as famous as other rappers like Ice Cube. Near this time, Tupac’s acting career had just started. He was cast in a movie called Juice and was on Poetic Justice. Then, Tupac had made a new song called “Brenda’s Got a Baby”, which symbolized the police harassment and street violence during the time, and he was condemned by Vice President Dan Quayle. Two years later, he released his new album Thug Life. This album reached number one on the album charts and it was nominated for two grammy awards. His career blew up after his release of his new album All Eyez on Me. It had five singles, and even two hits which were “California Love” and How Do U Want It”. California Love was a combination of multiple singers and Tupac had teamed up with some of the best rappers at the time like Dr. Dre. On September 7th, 1996, Tupac was shot in a drive by shooting possibly because of the West- Side rappers and East- Side rappers feud but there is no real evidence. Tupac was sitting in a car with Suge Knight at a red light when a man got out of a car and fired 13 shots at Tupac, hitting him in the hand, chest, and pelvis. On September 13th, 1996, Tupac Shakur died. Even though Tupac died in 1996, his music carried it’s way through to the 21 century up until 2010. He is still considered a hip hop and rap legend and still is the king of rap.
